The virtual medal presentation day is near! Please read the following information carefully for information on both the medal day on August 22 and the rehearsal on August 15.
MEDAL SESSION TIMES (SATURDAY AUGUST 22)
|
Each medal candidate will participate in a guided 1-hour group medal session. Candidates should attend all sessions of their chosen medal genres. All medal levels will participate in the same medal session.
|
GENERAL FORMAT OF EACH SESSION
- 2-3 warmup songs of each dance style in the genre (e.g. Salsa, Bachata, Merengue)
- Medal routine/freestyle demonstrations
- Step pattern callouts with all candidates dancing (steps will be called out for each level)
- Open freestyle with all candidates dancing
MORE INFORMATION
1. WARMUP
The warmup is a chance for candidates to warm up before the exam section. The 3 Bronze dances will be played for each dance genre.
2. MEDAL ROUTINE
Candidates should dance the medal routines that have been taught in their classes/lessons. Routines can be loosely followed and additional basics patterns can be inserted if necessary. Leaders, if you forget the sequence, continue on and try to pick up as best as possible. Otherwise, freestyle and try to cover all the step patterns. Followers should NOT attempt to lead the leader back into the routine. Candidates should continue dancing until the music stops playing.
3. STEP PATTERN CALLOUTS
Candidates should commence by freestyle social dancing. We will call out step patterns specific to each level, and candidates should execute the pattern as soon as possible. Candidates should continue dancing and repeating the step pattern until directed otherwise. If you are participating without a partner, you can either dance the medal routine, or follow the callouts.
4. OPEN FREESTYLE
Candidates will have a chance to dance naturally and lead/follow as they please. Try to include as many of the step patterns as possible in your level. If you are participating without a partner, you can either dance the medal routine, or freestyle the order of movements.

SETTING UP YOUR CAMERA
Please practice setting up your device to get as much of your body on camera as possible. Ideally, your device/camera should face you and show your feet all the way up your head. If your dancing space is limited, we may ask you during the medal session to switch your camera angle between lower body and upper body focus.
