Waltz

The Waltz is a centuries-old traditional ballroom dance that beautifully glides and slides progressively around the dance floor. It elegantly combines swing movements with rise and fall, whilst incorporating rotational movements and creating graceful shapes and lines.

The Waltz flows stylishly around the floor, and has been the basis for the contemporary ballroom dances of Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz and even English Tango.

Foxtrot​

Smooth and elegant, the Foxtrot is a traditional ballroom style danced to slow and smooth big band tunes. Foxtrot developed from the traditional Waltz, but modified to suit a 4/4 time signature. The Foxtrot glides around the floor with ease and fluid elegance. At Dance 4 Life, we teach Social Foxtrot (or slow rhythm), and later develop into the Slow Foxtrot.​

Quickstep​

The Quickstep is the most upbeat and energetic of the ballroom dances. Danced to the tunes of big band swing music, the danced developed from the Foxtrot to suit the increasingly popular uptempo tunes of the 20s. The dance features the ballroom frame, with influences taken from the Charleston resulting in the dance featuring syncopated actions, hops, kicks and runs!​

English Tango

English Tango is a traditional ballroom dance, with origins in Argentina. The spread of Tango to Europe and America resulted in cultural influences to affect the development of the dances in those regions.

English Tango has been heavily influenced by the traditional English ballroom styles of Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep. Characteristic of the English Tango, is a more staccato action, resulting in quick movements and dramatic head flicks.
