Social & Events

Do you hold social dance nights?
Yes — we hold social dance nights for our members every few months.
These are a chance to practice your dancing in a relaxed environment and enjoy a mix of the styles you’ve been learning.

Do you hold dinner dances or dance balls?
Yes — we run a Mid-Year Showcase Ball and an End-of-Year Gala Ball.
These events bring our dance community together and give students the option to perform and celebrate their progress.

How do I start?

Please see our page on How to Start

How much does it cost?

How do I pay for classes?

  • Introductory Memberships, Bridal Packages and Short-Term Packages can be paid via EFTPOS or bank transfer.
  • Ongoing Membership is payable strictly via fortnightly direct debit.
  • Additional classes taken beyond your weekly membership quota are also charged via direct debit.

Do I need previous experience to learn to dance?

Definitely NOT! We specialize in absolute beginners wanting to learn to dance!
Everyone has to start somewhere and it's never too late to start! All you need is the desire to learn and the patience to improve.

Do I need a dance partner?

  • Private lessons can be taken either as an individual, a couple or 2 friends.
  • In group practice classes, we rotate partners. Individual spaces may be limited if the lead/follow ratio is not even. Please enquire.
  • At social dance nights, members are encouraged to dance with different people.

Is it normal to be nervous about learning to dance?

Yes, it's absolutely normal! In our experience, fear is the biggest thing that stops people from learning to dance because almost everyone is afraid of looking silly! Social dancing is a skill like any other and can be learned and developed with time, patience and desire.

Dance 4 Life is a social and non-competitive dance school focused on the social aspect of dancing, so you can rest assured that we'll help calm your nerves! Our private lesson structure is designed to give you the mental space to learn at your own pace outside of large group classes.

What happens during the Free Consultation?

One of our friendly instructors will introduce you to our dance school and explain how our school runs. We'll talk with you about what made you enquire and then give you a 10-15 minute sample dance lesson. If you enjoy everything, we can arrange your Introductory Membership. The consultation will go for about 30-35 minutes.

How does the Introductory Membership work?

Our Introductory Membership is a 3-week trial of our Primary Membership. For a 3-week period, you'll get a weekly private lesson and access to our Online Video Portal. In those 3 lessons, you'll get a taste of what ongoing learning is like and how to use our video portal. At the conclusion of your trial, you can choose to become a full member.

Optionally, you can also attend up to  3 weekly Foundations group classes. These classes teach the absolute basics of 2 dances in each class. This class is catered towards beginners and for members who want to refresh and practice their basics.

Please note that all sessions must be used within your 3-week introductory period and cannot be extended for any period beyond 3 weeks.

How does ongoing Membership work?

The Introductory Membership explained above is a trial of our ongoing Primary Membership, so you'll get the same inclusions as part of your membership every week!  Students generally attend their weekly private lesson for their own personal progression and optionally utilize the online member video portal to practice between classes. The portal contains video demos and tutorials to help you remember. Your private instructor will guide you through our social dance syllabus and continue developing your dancing.

Additionally, members can use the Foundations group classes to learn additional dances and for general practice with other people! The best way to get better is to actually dance, so these classes are provided with our Primary membership to give you more opportunity to dance!

Membership fees are paid via fortnightly subscription via direct debit. Membership is flexible and you can easily suspend your membership if you're going to be away.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

Membership Cancellation Policies
  • Membership cancellation/suspension - 7 days email notice is required prior to the next payment date.
  • Private lesson cancellation - 24 hours notice is required to receive a makeup credit, otherwise the lesson is forfeited.
  • Group and practice classes - 24 hours notice is required if you are not attending. Makeup policies may apply.
  • Introductory membership - After commencement, no refund is given if you are unable to complete the 3-week trial membership.

What is your makeup policy?

Our memberships work on a weekly subscription basis, so it's common for members to "bank" and accrue private lesson makeups when the private lesson cancellation policy is followed.

Private makeups can be used by booking double lessons or having additional lessons in the same week.  Private makeups are allocated as a credit onto an Active Membership, and can only be used within that membership while it's active. Membership cannot be Suspended or Cancelled to use a private makeup outside of an Active membership, or while the membership is “Inactive”.

Is there a minimum membership term or lock-in contract?

The minimum term is just 4 weeks! This applies when you first start up, and any time you change membership tiers or levels.

What's on the membership portal?

The membership portal contains a comprehensive video library of demonstrations, tutorials, class recaps, practice music and more! Videos are included of all the dance styles up to our "Bronze" level. We are constantly adding more video content as members cover more material!

Can I just do group/practice classes?

We specialize in private tuition to provide you with the best possible personalized learning experience and to ensure you progress in your dancing.

Do you offer casual private lessons?

Casual private lessons are $100 per lesson paid in the lesson, or $95 pre-paid in advance.
Ongoing Membership is designed to provide massive value as it includes a weekly private lesson, and online video portal, plus lots of complimentary or highly-discounted group and practice classes.

Do you offer casual or "drop-in" group/practice classes?

No. All group/practice classes are for accessible only to active members.

Do you have any short-term options?

You can request to set the duration of your membership, with a minimum 4 week duration.
For example, if you only want to dance for 6 weeks, we can arrange your membership to run for only 6 weeks.

What level do I need to be for the group classes?

The Foundations group class covers the absolute basics, so is perfect for beginners. Foundations classes teach the basic steps from scratch and 1 common variation. It's also a great class for those wishing to refresh or hone their foundations

The "Bronze" group classes assumes completion of our Foundation or "Crystal" level syllabus for the given genre. You must complete the "Crystal 2" level before you can enrol and comfortably participate in a Bronze class.

The "Bronze/Pre-Silver" group classes assumes completion of the lower level Bronze 1 & 2 syllabus for the given genre.

The higher-level "Silver Medallist" group classes require completion of the "Bronze Elite" level medal for the given genre. You must complete this level AND medal before you can enrol into a Silver practice class.

How long are the classes?

Both private lessons and group practice classes run between 40-45 minutes.

What should I wear?

For your initial dance lesson, wear comfortable light clothing that you won't feel restricted in. Avoid heavy or rubber soled shoes as they can stick to the floor. No stiletto shoes are allowed as they can damage the dance floor. Dance shoes are recommended at later stages of learning.

Can I just dance with my own partner?

If you only want to dance with your partner, we recommend sticking with private lessons on the Primary membership.
In group and practice classes, students are expected to rotate partnering with other students, as the point is to practice your lead & follow skills with others.
At social dance nights, students are encouraged to dance with others.

How big are the group practice classes?

Group classes can vary in size from 4 to 20 people.

How many people can participate in a private lesson?
